Constructivism :: essays research papers fc
Students need to be able to learn how to become effective problem solvers. They should be able to identify problems, evaluate those problems and then decipher a way to transfer their learning to those problems in a way that will bring about a solution. If a student is able to perform in a problem solving situation a meaningful learning should then occur because he has constructed an interpretation of how things work using preexisting structured. This is the theory behind Constructivism. By creating a personal interpretation of external ideas and experiances, constructivism allows students the ability to understand how ideas can relate to each other and preexisting knowledge. A teacher must then recognize the importance of the cognative and social approaches for learning and teaching so that she may aid the students' development in constructivist learning. Both approaches are valuable because one will emphasize the role of cognative processes and the other will emphasize culture and social interaction in the role of meaningful learning. One, however, may wonder how to go about enforcing these approaches. One method is through scaffolding, providing a student with sufficient information to be able to complete a task on his own or, to present a gradual decrease in the amount of help availible allowing the student the capacity to work independantly. Situated learning will present the student with a set of learning tasks placed in realistic contexts. This will include the abilities to use knowledge in a functioning learning approach and acquiring inert knowledge based on the learning of isolated facts in limited conditions. Lastly, students should, through the use of multiple perspectives, be able to view problems and ideas. These ideas presented will then be able to shed light on the nature of problem solving. There are three most common types of problems, the first being well-structured problems. Well-structured problems are ones clearly stated with known solution procedures and evaluation standards; an example being a mathamatical process. Another type of problem are those that are ill-structured; they are stated vaguely, have unclear solution procedures, and vague standards of evalalution. The third type, issue problems, are ill-structured problems that will arrouse srtong feelings in the students. The first step in helping students become adaquate problems solvers is assuring they realize that a problem does exist. Once a problem is identifiedm students should be expected to understand the nature of the problem. The next logical step would then be for those students to compile all relevant information to their problem allowing them to formulate and carry out a solution. African American Athletes Essay
American student athletes have always faced stereotypes in and out of the classroom, being seen as self-segregating or ââ¬Å"dumb jocksâ⬠that really wouldnââ¬â¢t be at school if it werenââ¬â¢t for their athletic ability. Although these stereotypes are applied to both white and black athletes, African American students, especially men, feel it more than their white counterparts. African Americans are already, for the most part, seen as intellectually inferior, so when they are seen in an academic environment they are automatically judged. If they didnââ¬â¢t get into school just for being black, they got into school for being a black athlete. Excuses are made as to why African American student athletes and pro athletes dominate in the world of sports in general. From the time the black athlete stepped into the sports arena and began to compete with whites, white people have been looking for an explanation. In his article Sailes looks into the myths and stereotypes surrounding African American athletes, most of which have been created by whites. In loosely replicated the experiment that Sailes conducted with his students and in doing so I found that the stereotypes he discusses do exist and many people strongly believe in some of the myths. I interviewed both male and female athletes and non-athletes alike and surprisingly most of their answers to my questions were the same. I asked them all the same five questions; 1. Do you think African Americans dominate in sports? 2. Which Sports? 3. Are there certain positions they are better at? 4. Why? 5. Is their demeanor on the field or court different than that of a white athlete? and 6. Have you heard any myths about why black athletes are better? Interviewee #1, A white female on the basketball team at Gettysburg College felt that black athletes were better at all sports and in all positions, but particularly in basketball and football. She has learned from experience that black athletes are more loud and aggressive. It was her belief that African Americans are better at sports because of genetics. She also said that it could be because historically they have done hard labor and had menial jobs, so their physical condition has evolved. The one myth she has heard is that African Americans have an extra bone in their leg which makes them capable of jumping higher and running faster. Interviewee # 2, an African American football player stated that blacks are better at all sports, but especially football, in such positions as cornerback, running back, and wide receiver. When asked why he felt that this is true his answer was ââ¬Å"because weââ¬â¢re just nasty like that. â⬠In regards to myths he recalled one of his high school classmates expressing to him that the reason blacks were better was because they still had some monkey left in them. Interviewee # 3, a white college graduate, non-athlete articulated that blacks are better at any sport they try but not in any positions that require brain power or thought. He said that they are not usually good quarterbacks because they arenââ¬â¢t smart enough. When I asked him why, his response was, ââ¬Å"because they are dumb Nââ¬â¢sâ⬠. He believes that they become athletes because they have no other options to get a job or get rich, unless they can rap. He also stated that the reason they can run so fast is because they are used to running from the cops. Interviewee # 4, A white male who is a former athlete said that he believes that African Americans are superior in all sports except for lacrosse and hockey, and that the reason for this is because they are much more expensive to start up and maintain- as opposed to soccer/football/basketball where all you need is a ball really. He thinks black people on the whole start out life economically feeble compared to whites and believes in the myth that they have been evolved into more muscular and stronger people because of the process of natural selection during slavery where the slave owners bought the biggest and strongest, and theyââ¬â¢re offspring are the ones that created the people that are dominating in sports now. My last interviewee was a female African American basketball player who felt that African Americans dominate in football and basketball because it is the only sport they want to play so they strive for it. She also said that blacks are more aggressive because it means more to them. In the majority of my interviews the participants mentioned what Sailes referred to as the Mandingo Theory, in which the physical superiority of African Americans is attributed to the selection and so called breeding process along with the manual labor performed during the days of slavery. The psychological and dumb jock theories were also articulated in the answers I received from the white students for they all said at some point or another during the interview that African Americans are intellectually inferior and all they have going for them is sports, and even in the world of sports there are positions that they are mentally incapable of occupying. The one thing that I believe all the participants agreed on both black and white is that African Americans are somehow genetically different. I was really taken aback by my findings. Even though I have learned throughout this semester that people are more racist than I ever thought they were, I didnââ¬â¢t realize that this racism is existent in literally everything. Iââ¬â¢m not really into sports and do not pay attention to them, so I had no idea that people felt this way about African American athletes. So, it seems as though African Americans are battling this war on racism on yet another front.

The criminals who use cyberstalking are called as Cyber stalkers. They use email, messages, phone calls and other communication devices to stalk and victimize people. Cyberstalking cases have been increasing these days and most people are not aware of this. Some of the most common cyberstalking comes from many forms and the most common tactics used are threatening, harassing or sending manipulative emails out from various accounts and hacking on the personal information and gaining access to the victimââ¬â¢s personal records or accounts. The recent recordsâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Most of the victims would end up paying the sum of money demanded and if they donââ¬â¢t pay up the money, the personal information would be lost in that stipulated time. Another example of cyberstalking that I came across was Joe Goodà ¢â¬â¢s cyberstalking case. His ex-fiancee Tawny hacked into his personal email and got him fired from his job. She stole personal information from his Yahoo account and sent obscene mails to his superiors at work. She manipulated him and got him arrested a number of times. She somehow gained access to his Yahoo account and obtained personal information and used it against him. She used the law to support her cause by showing that she was physically manhandled by Joe whereas actually she hurt herself physically and falsely accused him. She also threatened a land lord of Joeââ¬â¢s girlfriend and a former colleague of Joeââ¬â¢s. We must hence be careful while using passwords and sharing passwords. Passwords must not be shared and we should protect them from prying eyes. We cannot tell from where the hacker would target you and a small amount of negligence could land you in trouble and we could be a victim of cyberstalking. Identity fraud is faking oneââ¬â¢s identity and using the identity for illicit means. This is an unlawful activity. Made Desolate in America I remember when my mom found out the news. I came over to visit her and was let in their home by her husband. As I entered their living room I noticed tears were rolling down my motherââ¬â¢s cheeks as she starred at her laptop screen. Her eyes were bright red from crying and she seem furious. I asked what was wrong, while glancing at what she was reading. The screen read that the EUC program has ended for millions. The emergency unemployment compensation program (EUC) was created in 08ââ¬â¢ by President George W. Bush and the House of Representatives at the time. It was a federal funded program that would kick in after a claimant exhaust their state unemployment. So if a claimant were to exhaust their 26 weeks of state unemployment funds, they would be eligible for up to 99 weeks of federal funds. The House at the time considered the fact that many claimants may not be able to find employment right away. So in order to offset their financial hardships they allowed extra claim w eeks to cover them. However the majority of this terms House felt differently. Tom Harkin, who is the senator of Iowa, shared some of the Houseââ¬â¢s opinion in an article, for The Congressional Digest.
